Another Day, Another Game

"These afternoon games are killing me! Girl, you gotta protect yourself from the sun! Sit in the shade, get some huge glasses, and slather on the sunscreen. Keep that skin baby soft."

A double header today, 1pm and 3pm. Both teams played really well. The boys got some hits and some action out in the field.

. . . future Hall of Famer and a girl who only likes baseball cuz the snack bar sells lollipops . . .

2 Ways to Score

Minor League Rock Hounds

young pitchers are a little wild . . . many times you take one in the back . . . automatic walk to first

once on first you watch carefully for the ball to be bobbled . . .

then you're off like a flash - you might make it past second, maybe even round third . . .

then straight for home as fast as you can . . . a run scored by stealing bases.

Sometimes though you just see that ball coming . . .

and you connect . . . it's solid out to the fence . . CRACK!

and a slide into home just as the ball is coming in!

and why do they do this?

for the snack bar of course!

. . . and that's a ball game folks.

Head to Head

A very exciting night at the ball park . . . great plays by all our boys. This little guy is a neighbor and long time friend of DJ. He just got his first hit of the season! Actually got on base twice tonight. Thumbs Up!

And the slugger himself retelling his line drive to the fence . . . Home Run!!

Nothing like a home run and some hits to make this dugout crazy wild!

Up next. Look out! DJ has been striking out lately and got a double tonight.

These two have played on soccer teams and baseball together for countless seasons. Those days are over. Drafted on separate teams, they are going head to head tonight. We lost 16-1 last game and this guy had struck Mathias out. But it's a brand new ball game baby! Bo pitched great for the Knights - 5 strike outs. No one was getting a hit off him then Mathias cleared his most solid hit of the season bringing in two runs! The score was close most of the game, we were only up by 2 or 3. Then in the fourth inning (of a 5 inning game) the Knights have bases loaded, 2 outs. Batter hits a fly out over shortstop. Mathias caught it on a dead sprint, bobbling it, and got the out to end their hopes and dreams. :) Best catch of the night. Roll the highlight reel. Then we went on a roll and got a bunch of runs the last inning ending 10-3 (game was called after max of 5 runs per inning)

It's lots of fun to sit and watch the game with friends. Chatting and cheering, and yes a bit of good natured ribbing. We also had family visiting today. . . Playing in the park with the cousins. Everyone is dirty and tired - what a day.

Sports = Pain and Suffering

FACT:
If you are determined to teach your son not to be afraid of the ball you will bloody his nose. Every time. Murphy's Law. My husband is trying to teach our youngest not to be afraid of the baseball. He keeps turning his head away when catching. They head out to the yard for a special practice session to focus on this. First pitch and WHAM. Blood gushing. Accidentally of course - his head was turned so yeah he missed catching it. "Suck it up buddy. You got hit in the nose. That's the worst that can happen. You lived. Now lets play ball." Problem solved. Every moment is teachable apparently.

FACT:
Don't think at middle age you can keep up with your kids. Not gonna happen. I'm learning to play tennis. As my husband is busy with baseball, my 12 yr old is learning with me. We've been out a few times - it's lots of fun. We can get a little volley going. I'd say we're about equal but he'd probably tell it differently. After one long session my arm was numb, very sore, I tried to shag baseballs immediately following that session and couldn't get the ball across the dirt. Really. Almost paralysis. Does he feel anything? Anything at all? Nope. Nothing but hilarity that Mom is whining and he don't feel a thing. Example #2: We were having a jump rope competition today and Danny hurt his heel. He is now limping and scarfing Ibuprofen. A jump rope injury.
